Space Ship Work In Progress

Here are my WIP's for my Space Ship Model:

Here I started with a cube and began shaping the base exterior:

I then shaped out the cockpit and added slightly more detail to the wings:

I then hollowed out the cockpit and the storage room behind it before adding some more shape to the wings and the top and bottom of the ship.

Finally I opened out the back of the ship and added the ship's propulsion engines.

Description of the SpaceShip:

This ship is meant for commercial use and is only meant to be used by one man however the ship can accommodate up to 4 people aboard before certain safety regulations are breached. The ship is small in size and is used for quick travel across the stars with relative ease. As well as additional RCS thrusters, the ship comes with aerodynamics in case the personnel aboard encounter a rough planetary atmosphere. The main propulsion thrusters located at the back of the ship are powered by the crew's favourite chemical compound fuel, but the engines can still operate on a low thrust using the main solar panel located on top of the craft. This is recommended for long periods of space travel. The cockpit comes pre-installed with the latest Google Glass Eye Optics window which has been customised to suit space travel on a galactic scale. The Ship is also fitted with a small wireless receiver tuned to a low 6G. This allows connection to the internet to be maintained so long as the craft remains within an approximate 3 light years from the solar system (Sol).

Texture Test.

Here is a small texture I whipped up to be applied to the exterior hull:

Sci Fi Spaceship Assignment MoodBoards

For this assignment I constructed two moodboards to help me create an idea for my final design.

The first moodboard are concepts of futuristic small/medium sized commercialised or public transportation ships. I really like the idea of a personal commercial spacecraft for a family or even a single person:

The second moodboard contains images of existing space technology as I plan to blend the two timelines of space technology together for a final design:

Dragon Assignment

For my dragon, I started out by sculpting the primitive shape of the head:

I then created a body for the head in a flying serpent style:

I then added a mouth to the dragon:

I then finished up by adding fine details, features to the head, wings and spine spikes to give a weird take on a flying serpent / dragon. This is my final dragon.

Here is my moodboard for my dragon assignment. I really like the idea of wyverns or dragons without arms or legs. Basically flying serpents. So I hope to have that as my final result.

Final Santa Assignment Result

Here is my complete santa christmas card with a games theme:

And here is a version without the text:

If you're wondering why santa is pulling a pose, then you might also want to know that I recently played saints row the third. Yep its a good game.

Santa Assignment Sketches

For my Christmas assignment I really like the idea of combing santa with old computer/video games to give it an actual CGA theme to it. I had ideas like tetris, super mario bros, and castlevania but I didn't show them all   at once in these sketches.

Concept 1: Castlevania santa riding space invaders

Concept 2: Santa playing an old video game of himself

Concept 3: Santa riding a sleigh made from a Tetris piece being pulled by a space invader and bullet bill

I really like the idea of santa riding a sleigh made from a tetris piece being pulled by other characters from games because it mixes the concept up and gives it more of a game style rather than a modified santa character.

Final Plane Crash Scene

This is my final design for my 2 week plane crash assignment.

I struggled a lot on this project since there were a number of problems including the UV maps for the plane and also the correct geometry for the plane. I wanted to make the plane look like it slid underneath a building into a large car-park but I didn't have time to put in the debris on the floor. I tried to keep things as close to the brief as possible though. Overall I think I could have done so much better on this project and I am pretty disappointed on how it turned out.

Plane Crash - 2 Week Assignment

For this assignment I am required to develop a scene depicting a plane crash following instructions set in a brief:

Your scenario is: an aircraft (Boeing 747, American Airlines) has crash landed in New York, (Lower East Side area). The plane has come to rest smashed into a building. The fuselage is broken but largely intact. Parts of the aircraft have broken off and rubble and wreckage is strewn around with some smoke and fire. Our hero character (white male, 30, dark hair, T shirt, jeans) was onboard but has miraculously survived the crash and is standing stunned before the wreckage (to give the scene scale, drama and a focal point for the viewer). The director isn’t sure which time of day will work best for this scene and wants you to produce alternatives for him to consider.

I started off by creating a mood board of various Boeing models so I could get a feel of the general structure and form of a plane rather than just the 747:

I then created a mood board of the lower east side of New York:

Next I created a mood board of different plane wreckages to give me a sense of the innards of planes, not just  a Boeing:

I still felt that I didn't have that much knowledge of the internals and structures of Boeings so I created a mood board containing blue prints and images showing the inner workings of the aircraft:

I finally created the initial idea sketch in which my resulting piece will be built upon. I like the idea of the setting being in an under croft but I may change it to a low hanging bridge. I really like the idea of the plane being split by an impact happening off camera and then the wreckage shown to have grinded across the concrete surface:

Spider Bat Final Halloween Creature

Here is my final 3D Model of the Spider Bat. I think the outcome could have turned out so much better but I struggled a lot with the UV mapping. I think I managed to get a good spider form however.

Halloween Ideas/Concept sketches

To get a feeling of my final creature I did some concept sketches of general ideas. My goal is to create something that would generally terrify someone. So I had the idea of combining different scary things together to make one big scary thing.

I first did a quick brainstorm of things that make people scared, or generally a bit unnerved.

I then combined some of these ideas together to get different ideas until finally:

I came to my final idea. Because a flying spider generally scares anybody.

Final Tree Model

For this concept I had the idea of a withering tree on the brink of death trying to stretch and reach out to the other trees for help. I think this could have come out a lot better if I wanted to included a background or scene. I'm also a little disappointed that the full detail cannot be seen with the bark texture applied.

Here is the Tree Model:

Tree Rough Sketches

Here a couple of pages with a few sketches and rough drafts. I haven't got anything solid yet but I hope to towards the end of the day:

Final Surrealism Scene

Here is my final surrealism scene. This turned out a little worse than I would have hoped it to be but overall I think it made the mark in what I wanted to show. It was a tough decision deciding which of the four concepts to use and really I think they would all work well. Perhaps in the future I will go back on this post and make them all into full 3D scenes.

Here is the turntable of the scene:

Surrealism Sketches

To gather a final idea for my surrealism brief I have designed 4 different concepts that have been drawn from my research and understanding of surrealism. Surrealism is a very broad subject to work with since there really isn't any clear definition about it and the main aspects of surrealism I enjoy is the vast emptiness or the lack of sense. Here are my designs:

Concept 1: The Painting's Thoughts

During my research of surrealism I noticed quite a few paintings/pictures had more than one perspective inside of them and I wanted to play around with the idea of portals to a new perspective. The picture isn't exactly a portal to a new perspective but the viewer's perspective. This has been done many times before, however I mixed it up slightly by changing the time of day inside each instance of perspective.

Concept 2: Occupied Space

One view I have on surrealism is that a surrealistic scene can contain normal objects in a strange position. In this concept I decided to depict the idea of a house in a vast open space. There isn't any walls, just all the household appliances and objects scattered around. I liked this idea a lot since the initial space looks abandoned but the footsteps leading to and from the mailbox shows indication of life.

Concept 3: The Passing Moment

For this design I wanted to have something interesting to look at. In the research on surrealism I conducted I noticed a lot of depictions of houses or towns are built or placed in impossible positions, such as hands or monsters or human heads. I decided to try something similar and place a town on a draining hourglass. I also put some town ruins in the bottom of the hour glass, perhaps representing the past and future.

Concept 4: A Lost System

I came up with this concept since I liked the idea of changing the sun, something we all know too well and would find it a little strange to see it changed or replaced. So I decided the sun should change into a desk lamp. I then thought it would be interesting to have the individual planets buried in order next to the light to depict the solar system. Of course the planets in the sketch aren't scientifically accurate, they don't really have to be, but I would still like to include the full solar system if I expand on this.

Final Robot Concept

For the final work result I decided to expand on one of my previous concepts whilst mixing and matching the other ones into one piece. This is the resulting sketch:

I then used this sketch to build my final 3D model, which is an automated robot which traverses the ocean floor at top speeds to deliver cargo. Navigating precisely using a combination of it's huge camera lens, and two sensor modules on the front.
